Happy Pets Week
I’m taking part in some art challenges on Instagram this Year as a fun way of building up my portfolio and raising awareness of my brand and the services I have to offer. The first one was Happy Pets Week organised by @artguide_illustration
with the beautiful and talented ❤️HOSTS:
@galitskaya.illustration ,@withloveandwatercolor, @merlegoll_illustration, @jennifermpotter, @caroline.mcpherson.art
and @winonaki
We had a prompt given to us every week for three weeks which were:
- Week 1: Forest Forager
- Week 2: Devoted Gardener
- Week 3: Lovable Nerd
Forest Forager
I decided it had to be an adorably cute little puppy meeting a new friend in the forest.
It’s a curious little Jack Russell pup who should be tucked up in bed, rather than bumping into this cute little Love Bird and making a new friend as the day turns to night, illuminated by the watchful moon and magical stars in the forest.

Devoted Gardener
For this prompt I wanted to include kittens helping in the garden.
These two kittens love being around their cat mom when she’s working in the garden. They get up to all sorts of mischief among the potted plants and gardening tools.
I set out to try and do simple artworks but before I know it a thousand hours have gone by as I enjoy added all the details. I wanted the kittens to be super cute and mischievously interacting with each other.

The Lovable Nerd
For this prompt I knew that it was going to be a boy and his dog.
A boy and his best friend “Charlie” do everything together and love to goof around.
As you can see I love paying attention to detail and my aim here was to make them almost like twins with their over-sized glasses and spots/freckles on their faces. I was particularly thrilled with the way the boy’s patterned shirt turned out and the fur detailing on the dog.

I had so much fun doing this Challenge and have become a little bit addicted to them now. I like how “Challenges” stretch me as an artist and I tackle subject matter and themes that I wouldn’t normally do. This is very important to show versatility in my portfolio and also the ability to meet deadlines and commit to a project all the way through. I also really enjoyed the social aspect on Instagram where I met new artist friends.
