Hi, I’m Lesley Smitheringale, the creative force behind Hush the Moon.

I’m a professional artist who trained at Glasgow School of Art many moons ago. I’m also a qualified art teacher and when I’m not illustrating, I teach extra-curricular art to children in my home studio in the Redlands area of Queensland, Australia. I ended up settling in the Land of Oz after doing a Teacher Exchange. My Aussie hubby and I share our house with two cats who adopted us and we’re visited every day by the bright and beautiful native birds who come down for some tucker.

I’ve always wanted to design and provide themed illustrations for children and create magic in their lives. I’ve worked with children throughout my whole career and enjoy unleashing their creativity through story-telling and creating art. Getting all those ideas out of their young imaginations using paint onto canvas or characters sculpted in clay is a wonderful process. I also know about their passions and interests and how they can be “obsessed” with certain trends such as “unicorns”, “mermaids”, “fairies” “robots”, “spiderman” etc
